Teenager Arrested In Fatal Jersey Shore Shooting: Prosecutor

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting on the Jersey Shore, authorities said.

Dariel Vernet, 19, of Asbury Park was killed in the shooting, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.

The suspect's name was not released due to his age.

He was charged with murder and two related weapons offenses, Linskey said.

Shortly after 5:45 p.m. on Friday, July 8, Asbury police responded to a report of gunfire originating from the 100 block of Prospect Avenue, near the intersection with Atlantic Avenue.

Police found Vernet, who sustained multiple gunshot injuries. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead approximately one hour later. 

The 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody without incident Tuesday evening, July 12.
